Hatters target play-off finish

- SHELDAN KEAY

STOCKPORT County manager Jim Gannon says his side are currently on target to finish in the play-offs this season.

The Hatters have been in good form in recent weeks, having won three of their last four league games.

Their latest victory came on Saturday when they defeated fellow playoff contenders Chorley 1-0 away from home.

That win has seen County climb to ninth in the table, and Gannon believes his team are well on course to securing a play-off spot at the end of the campaign.

“We’re at a position now where we want to be which is 24 points from 14 games, and our target is to have 72 points at the end of the season, which is consistently a good ratio of points for the play-offs,” he said.

“You have to now look at this second group of 14 games and I’d like to think that we’ll grow in that period.

“The win against Chorley was a massive result and a statement that we can beat teams above us away from home, so it was a real milestone and shows that this group has the potential to beat the top six.”

Stockport will now hope to extend their fine run of form when they host Kidderminster at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

A victory could see the Hatters move up several places, but Gannon has revealed that injuries may cause his side some problems.

“It’ll be a tough one against Kidderminster. Especially as Danny Lloyd and Josh Amis have picked up knocked so we’re squeezing out every ounce of them at the moment,” he told the club’s official website.

“A great thing is that we now have a free week, so we can do some good fitness and shape work to maximise the opportunities for the players.

“Tamworth chose to have our game at the back end of November and the Gainsborough match is dependent on the FA Cup, so we will have a lot of games coming up soon.”

Kidderminster currently sit sixth in the division, but Stockport would leapfrog them if they are triumphant this weekend.
