PURE 107.8FM

- PAUL HOLLOWAY

●●ONCE again Stockport’s Radio Station Pure 107.8FM is on a quest to find the best musical talent in the borough. Stockport’s Drive Home presenter Paul Holloway explains more.

It’s the second week of Stockport’s Finest. Pure’s annual competition for bands and singersongwriters is back once again.

Once again there is a selection of quality acts in our grand final with local musicians hoping to follow in the footsteps of Blossoms Tom Ogden and Josh Dewhurst; both of whom had their first radio play with their previous bands when they entered the competition.

This is this year’s short list in our grand final… 1. Cordeliers 2. Kashmere 3. Liam McClair 4. Sally Caitlin 5. Templars

We’ll be showcasing the acts on Pure 107.8FM and, every week in the Stockport Express, I’ll have a look at one of the acts. Today it’s Kashmere. They are Joey Newey, Charlie Cole, Andy Law and Dave Pennington. They describe their sound as 90s Indie with a splash of rock ‘n’ roll. The band played at the Blackthorn Music Festival this summer and impressed music fans with their debut single ‘Blow Your Mind.’ They certainly have some classic rock star swagger about them.

Joey told Pure: “It’s amazing to have been recognised as one of Stockport’s finest bands. We’ve put in a lot of work over 2016 to get our name out there, so to get into the final of this competition tells us we’re doing something right. Stockport seems to be growing into a great town for music, we played Foodie Friday in August and it ended up being one of our favourite shows of the year. We plan to put on bigger gigs in Stockport next year as we’re growing an ever-increasing local fan base.”

The winners of this year’s competition will win two days at AStar Studios in Heywood (owned by Mercury Prize nominated producer Andy Ross) to record a single. There are more details on all five finalists on our website www. pureradio.org.uk . You can vote for Kashmere or any of the other artists in the final by e-mailing finest@pureradio.org.uk with your favourite act in the subject bar, (multiple votes will be disqualified).
