THE PLAZA

EIGHTY five years ago on October 7, 1932 an Art Deco vision was created in the form of The Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre which would grace the centre of Stockport on Mersey Square.

Providing the very best in big screen and live stage entertainment along with fine dining for everyone to enjoy all these years later, our much-loved venue which was saved by our community supporting The Stockport Plaza Trust – only 16 short years ago – is still providing this service to you.

Our latest Forthcoming Attractions Brochure arrives this week filled with attractions that provide perfect entertainment for all ages, including our family pantomime Peter Pan starring John Altman, known to millions of TV fans as ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton from Eastenders and the sensational touring production of Bill Kenwright’s Joseph starring Joe McElderry which makes a welcome return to The Plaza.

With must-see classic and current films, satellite broadcasts on the giant silver screen, the very best in stage productions, magnificent smaller scale events in our cabaret space ‘The Green Room’ alongside a rich variety of fine dining events in The Plaza Café, I am sure that there is something for everybody in our brochure and that we will have the absolute pleasure of welcoming you to The Plaza in very near future.

Finally don’t forget that by keeping a close eye on our web site www. stockportplaza.co.uk , social media or joining our online newsletter we can keep you informed of all the very latest added attractions here at The Plaza plus provide you with regular updates regarding our current fundraising initiative to re-silver our auditorium dome which will only be achieved with your support.

So if you are on our mailing list our latest brochure will be with you very soon or after November 18. Pop in to The Plaza on Mersey Square here in the very centre of Stockport and pick up your very own copy of this forthcoming seasons ‘What’s On’ brochure.

NK THEATRE ARTS

IT’S light switch-on time in Romiley this weekend! Christmas officially arrives in Romiley this Saturday as the Christmas tree and Christmas lights in the precinct outside The Forum Theatre are switched on to welcome the festive period.

With markets and stalls and plenty of Christmasthemed food and drink on offer from 10am-5pm this is going to be a great day in the village. We have some brilliant entertainment throughout the day, including performers from NK Theatre Arts, Werneth School Romiley Operatic Society and Romiley Little Theatre as well as Varivocals, Greave School, Pantonic Steel Band and Blank Cheque all providing singing and dancing throughout the day.

The lights themselves will be switched on towards the end of the day with one lucky local child being given the honour of switching them on.

So get down to Romiley this Saturday as Christmas arrives! A few tickets are still available for next weeks performance of the Simon Stephens play Punk Rock, being performed at The Forum Theatre on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.

The performance, directed by Kat Bond and Jake Martin, is being staged in the round in a very intimate setting. You can grab your seats for the play by visiting www. theforumtheatre.co.uk or by calling 0333 666 3366. Darren Stannage

SEVEN MILES OUT

SEVEN Miles Out would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supports our events and who are part of our wonderful community in Stockport Old Town.

Since the arts centre was created as part of Stockport’s Portas Pilot project in 2013 we have been working very hard to bring more new visitors to Stockport Old Town through our wide range of music, arts and comedy events in Seven Miles Out, our annual Fringe and Folk Festivals and Foodie Friday which has now firmly established itself as Stockport’s premier night out.

It’s wonderful to see how the night-time economy is now developing in the area with so many excellent and varied venues offering a great choice of food, drink and live music throughout the week. Stockport is well and truly back!

This week we are delighted to welcome back ‘Dr Shadrack’s Surgery’ this Friday evening from 8pm with a great line-up of local live music brought to us by Dr Shadrack who will be playing their energetic rhythm and blues and folk rock, a sure-fire pick-me-up to cure all winter ills!

Joining them is the fantastic UltrAcoustic along with the amazing Golden Daggers featuring the super-talented Matt Wolff which makes for a stellar night of live music completely free of charge!

Saturday night is our retro vinyl night when our resident DJ ‘The Vinyl Frontier’ will be playing classic tracks from past decades.

If you haven’t experienced Sound and Vision, it is always a chilled-out party atmosphere described as an ‘adult playground’ where friends come together for a dance and the pure enjoyment of sharing the music that was the soundtrack of their youth.

We couldn’t run this night without the amazing Collard family who have made Sound and Vision a completely unique event for Seven Miles Out and a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to get together and dance their socks off.
