Darren makes it count at Marple

MATHS teacher Darren Lytham took his time to add up his scores after playing in Mellor and Townscliff­e’s monthly medal.

His total came to 72 gross less 12 – nett 60 and included five birdies, seven pars, five bogeys and one double bogey – a six on the par four first hole.

Darren said: “After a poor first hole I got my act together and started to play steadily.

“The course, especially the greens, was in great shape - thanks to head green keeper Jamie Beech and his team.

“I putted well and it also helped that my playing partner Danny Jameson was playing really well as he won division two with a card of 85-18-67.”

In division one Stephen Crosthwait­e had hoped that his gross 70, less six for nett 64 was going to be a winning s core – then in came Darren!

A Singles Stableford for Bramhall ladies had the divisions won by Pat Marriott with 37 points, two more than Katie Marriott, Sylvia Howe 34, Judith Hill with a fine best-of-the-day 38 and Gill Gee 35.

There was some hot scoring at Bramall Park in a singles Stableford and it needed a cpo on 43 to take John Louden into top spot ahead of Ray Cope with Robert Wilson three points off their hot pace.

Michelle Pretty was out on her own in a singles Stableford for Park’s ladies as she posted 40 points to finish clear of Liz Robinson 37 and Donna MacIntosh and Pat Hulme, both 36.

Ryan Jackson was on fire in a singles Stableford at Reddish Vale as the scratch handicappe­r posted a massive 42points to finish six clear of Patrick Coll.

In Vale’s Wednesday section Stableford the divisions were topped by Lee Norcross 38 points, Michael Thompson 34 and Michael Warburton 36.

The Whittaker Stableford for Vale’s ladies had Fiona Kelsall leading in with 34 points from Anne Gosling 31 and Linsy Warburton 30.

A Seniors Stableford at Marple had division one led in by Keith Wigley with 40 points, one more than Ken Davies and in division two John Arnold was the main man with 39 points from Michael Fidler 37.

The Marple midweek Stableford had club legend Sid Hodkinson showing his class as he carded 37 points to finish clear of John Bintiff 36 and Gordon Mutch 35.

A Three Clubs and a Putter Stableford for Marple’s men had Gary Thomas showing his adaptabili­ty with a top score of 39 points in division one, just one more than Simon Jeffs, Paul Sutton and Neil Woodhouse.

Robert Ridley also posted 39 points to win division two by three points from Chris O’Leary.

The Lady Captain’s Drive-in competitio­n at Marple was won by Karen Buchanan with 29 points well clear of Glenda Conway 24 and Elaine Jones and Joan Vaughan, both 22.

A Junior Stableford at Stockport had Matthew Atkinson in unstoppabl­e form with 41 points, from Charles Whittaker 28.

A singles Stableford for Stockport’s men was dominated by Martin Massey with 38 points from Les Bishop 35 and Richard parker, Paul Garrett and William Smith, all 34.

Stockport ladies played their Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier and representi­ng the club in the national competitio­n in 2017 will be Val Garrett and Tracy Royle who led in with nett 77 from the ever consistent Linda Bolt and Natasha Brown 77.5.

The monthly medal at Hazel Grove saw Roy Campion go clickety click to finish a shot clear of Neil Harding and Peter Allen with Joe Shelly next in with 69.

Grove ladies were in Stableford mode with Elaine Beswick first past the post with 38 points, one more than Stephanie Holt and Ann Walmsley.
