TV ad has Smudge jumping for joy

-

SMUDGE the dog loves the John Lewis Christmas advert so much he tries to jump INTO the TV every time the music comes on.

The two-year-old Cavapoochon leaps off the sofa when he hears the advert’s music, before proceeding to pogo incessantly to mimic the animals jumping on the trampoline in the ad.

His owner Amanda Lodite, from Cheadle, captured the bizarre behaviour on her mobile phone - but reckons Smudge might topple the telly if he keeps up his hilarious hi-jinks.

Smudge – a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, toy poodle, Bichon Frise cross-breed – went wild the first time he saw the commercial last week, while his best pal Teddy remains disinterested.

Amanda, a 31-year-old mum-of-one, said: “The first time he saw it he just went absolutely nuts.

“He’s literally trying to get in the TV to be with the other animals. He’s up and down and up and down. He just doesn’t stop.

“As soon as he hears the jingle he shoots up off the sofa.

“It’s incredible. It’s like something goes off in his brain and he can’t hold back.

“The first time he did it I couldn’t get my phone out quick enough to capture it all. Then it came on again and he did the same thing.

“So I eventually recorded the whole thing, showing how he sits on the sofa good as gold until it comes on – then goes crazy.

“It’s so funny seeing him bop up and down thinking he can get on the trampoline.”

Amanda lives with her 12-year-old son, Jake Lodite, and partner Ben Firth, a 36-year-old mechanic, along with another Cavapoochon, one-year-old Teddy.

And while Smudge is all action the moment the advert comes on, laidback Teddy doesn’t get all the fuss.

Amanda, who works for a pharmacy, said: “I think the first time Smudge saw it was on Monday and I was pretty taken aback at the way he reacted.

“He’s never met a fox in real life but it looks like he really wants to meet one. He just completely went for the TV.

“There will be times when he is actually asleep but wakes up because he hears the music and starts his dancing.

“He jumps as high as his little legs will take him.

“We’re thinking about putting the TV on a bracket high on the wall to stop him going for it.

“I think that he just really wants to be in the advert.”
