Man is tasered after alleged knife lunge at police

-

A MAN who allegedly lunged at police officers with a knife has been arrested after being Tasered.

Armed officers were scrambled to a property in Poynton late on Wednesday night (November 16) following reports of a ‘disturbance’.

It is understood a man became aggressive when approached by police on Clumber Road at around 9.30pm.

When he reportedly came at officers with a blade, they were forced to Taser him.

The drama unfolded near a row of car sales garages, according to police.

Officers remained at the scene as late as 11pm as an investigation was launched.

A man, whose age is not yet known, was arrested at the scene and then taken into custody.

It’s unclear what kind of disturbance had occurred at the property before police were called.

Residents reported a heavy police presence on the street, with one claiming armed officers were seen on the roof of a building.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary said: “Officers were dispatched to Clumber Road follow reports of a disturbance.

“A male at that location, armed with a knife, came towards officers, who deployed a Taser.

“He has been arrested. Officers remain at the scene to investigate the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
