Brewing up help for armed forces

-

A BRAMHALL resident hosted a charity fundraiser to raise money for armed forces personal and their families.

Fiona Bates welcomed Cheadle MP Mary Robinson, friends and neighbours for afternoon coffee and cake in aid of the SSAFA – Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association. The event raised £450 for the oldest national welfare charity of its kind.

Fiona said: “I’m grateful to everybody for showing their support – particularly to those who baked the delicious cakes, to those like Mary who took the time out of their busy schedules to join us on the day, and most especially to those volunteers who work tirelessly all year round to help our country’s war veterans.”

Ms Robinson added: “SSAFA makes a huge difference to the lives of veterans and their families, many of whom have been affected by the physical, mental and emotional challenges they’ve experienced.

“It was a pleasure to see so many new and familiar faces, and I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to thank Fiona for her generous hospitality and to applaud her for raising money for such a wonderful cause.”

SSAFA volunteer Yvonne Lyones, who has 16 years military service, said: “We are always looking for volunteers so if you would like to find out more information for SSAFA, please call me on 01625 876439.”
