STOCKPORT Borough Care celebrated community heroes at its award ceremony night at Edgeley Park.

The event saw Hollyoaks actor Joe Tracini take to the stage to say ‘a massive thank you’ to those who give their time to the community’s older people.

The non-profit organisation employs 560 people caring for 460 elders, many with dementia, in 11 care homes in the Stockport borough. From the hundreds of care workers, two wonderful women who work side-by-side at the Reinbek residential home in Davenport both won the Carer of the Year Award.

Sharon Daniels and Shani Simon are both from Adswood.

Shani said: “You just have to treat your residents as if they were your own grandmother and grandfather. I love the work; I love the friendships you make and I love feeling that I making a difference to people’s lives.”

Other awards on the night were Care Home of the Year for Cawood House in Brinnington, Best Newcomer Robert Noel and Most Effective Team, the maintenance team.

Steve Normansell, chairman at Borough Care, said: “The community should be proud of these hard working and dedicated professionals who support our older people and enable them to retain their dignity, independence and zest for life in their later years. We own them all a massive thank you.”
