Singer-songwriter releases her debut tracks after 20-year wait

-

A SINGER-SONGWRITER has released her first track after nearly two decades in the music industry.

Natalie Joan, 36, from Offerton, has been performing in bands since the age of 18 having first picked up her dad’s guitar at just six years old.

Despite writing, recording and performing songs she had never released any until last week, when EP The World Keeps Spinning became available.

Natalie’s passion for music has had to be balanced with caring for her disabled parents, which has sometimes limited the time available to get in the studio and on stage.

She said: “It is very difficult to balance caring with music, anyone who cares for someone will know it is unpredictable and 24/7.

“But if you want to do something badly enough you find a way. When I get the time, all my effort goes into trying to get this music off the ground.”

The five-track EP was launched at the Three Minute Theatre, in Afflecks Palace, Manchester.

It has taken almost two years to come to fruition with Natalie’s other commitments and a hitch at the studio meaning six months of work was wiped.

Natalie became interested in music after acquainting herself with her dad’s guitar – which she christened Fred – also playing the violin and piano.

But she only gained the confidence to perform in a band at university.

Her biggest break so far was when two of her songs featured in ITV drama Vera, during which she had to teach on-screen star Brenda Blethyn to mime along to them.

Away from music Natalie works part time as a home help for the elderly.

She said: “I’ve been music quite a long time but never put my work out there. If you don’t actually do something you don’t realise how quickly time goes by.

“The title song is about whatever happens the world will keep spinning, carry on and everything will be alright.”

The EP is available on iTunes, googleplay and most major platforms.
