Points slip by with chances being missed

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

AS the saying goes “if you don’t take your chances, you don’t win games.”

Since the defeat to Woking in the FA Cup we’ve dropped points to teams that we shouldn’t have.

A draw at Nuneaton was palatable, the win over Gainsborough was okay but should have been by a greater margin than the 1-0 it was and on Saturday we lost to Bradford PA, which was embarrassing.

Most supporters, including myself, have been crying out for a striker, they’re hard to find, I accept that but if we’re serious about getting back to League football in the next few seasons then a natural goal scorer is essential. Against all those three teams I mentioned above we had so many chances that went begging, chances that should have been put away.

It’s hard to blame individual players, or the management. The players are trying, that’s obvious, none of them go out to play bad football intentionally.

Jim and his staff are working to a plan and it’s hardly his fault when your star player misses a penalty but people need to stand up and accept that they’re not having any positive effect on a game and make amends to improve.

Jimmy Ball is an obvious case in point; he scored two great goals against Woking but has in the following games done nothing to help the cause!

Courtney Meppen Walters gets man of the match one game, then in the following makes mistake after mistake to make you wonder what the hell is going on.

I don’t like to criticise individuals but sometimes I just can’t help it.

Over the week it became known that Danny Lloyd had suffered a personal tragedy and the fact he played against Trinity is a real credit to the man.

His goal in that game was brilliantly set up and brilliantly taken and I for one forgive him for missing the penalty that would quite possibly have won us the points against Bradford.

After all, he’s scored so many match winners this season to make himself indispensable to the team and I admire him for the contribution he makes and the effort he puts into every game, if it could just be bottled and given to the rest of the team!

By the time you read this we’d have played at, form team Tamworth, and you know, we could upturn the form book and come away with the win, keep your fingers crossed.
