SALE Golf Club were again proud and excellent hosts for the 16th Joanne Morley Junior Challenge which had a full field of boys and girls aged under 16 years from across the region.

Joanne’s magnificent golfing career has seen her win virtually all of the titles on offer as an amateur, including playing in a Curtis Cup win at Royal Liverpool, before joining the professional ranks with a handicap of +6.

She went on to play in the Solheim Cup and had regular success on the LET and LPGA Tours and on retirement from playing was the Solheim Cup vice captain for four years culminating in a memorable win for GB and I over the USA.

She has been a staunch supporter of junior golf in Cheshire over the years and has joined with WGTB Golf in promoting the Joanne Morley Junior Golf Challenge which has seen many of the players go on to achieve great success in golf over the years.

Joanne was again in attendance for a full day at Sale Golf Club along with Sale Lady Captain Maria Walmsley and other staunch Sale supporters as some terrific talent enjoyed a great competition for the many prizes on offer.

It went to wire of a cpo as three players ended locked on 37 points and taking the top spot was Sale’s Daniel O’Gorman whose better back nine of 19 points gave him the edge over Matthew Seasman (Withington) and nine-year-old Imogen Williamson (Vicars Cross) and a superb Odyssey putter.

Daniel also won the nearest the pin for boys prize on the 186-yard third hole and led his Sale team to victory in the top team prize..

Matthew won the Top Boy prize of a round for four at Marriott Worsley Park and Imogen was Top Girl taking a Callaway Golf Bag as her prize.

She also had a superb two on the difficult par three 15th hole and looks to be a great prospect for the future as she also won the prize for top score for 11 years and under.

Also in the prizes were James Hugall (Sale), Sam Higgins the newly appointed Junior Captain of Withington Golf Club, Amy Sarjantson (Didsbury) Beth Greenhalgh (Manchester), Siobhan Grayson (Ringway) and Carina-May Teirney (Crompton and Royton) who won the Nearest the Pin for Girls on the 17th.

Joanne was very impressed with the standard of golf by many young players and also for their conduct and etiquette both on and off the course which brought great credit to both themselves and their clubs.
