AN APPEAL has been launched to find a ‘sadistic’ attacker who tortured a kitten, causing it to lose an eye.

Friendly Larry, who lives with owner Keith Cooney in Great Moor, is also a regular and popular visitor to the nearby Dog and Partridge pub, on Buxton Road.

But on Friday he was found slumped in the middle of the A6 carriageway with a multitude of cigarette burns to his head.

A customer made the grim discovery and took Larry to a vet where he had an eye removed.

Now regulars at the pub want to find whoever was responsible for the attack and plan to raise money to help the family who own Larry to pay the £1,080 vet bill.

Licensee Andy Green, 57, said: “Whoever did this is the lowest of the low.”

AN APPEAL has been launched to find a ‘sadistic’ attacker who tortured a kitten and causing it to lose an eye.

A customer made the grim discovery and took Larry - who was only born in March - to a vet. Here he had an eye removed and was treated for burns to his head.

Now regulars at the pub want to find those responsible for the attack and to raise money to help the family who own Larry to pay the £1,080 vet bill.

Licensee Andy Green, 57, said: “Whoever did this is the lowest of the low. To terrify a defenceless animal with such a sadistic attack incomprehensible.

“Larry is one of three kittens born in March and is lovely, I’ve never known such a good natured and friendly cat.

“He came in here all the time, it was like his second home and everyone wanted to take him back to their home.”

Larry had gone missing around the weekend of November 20 and 21 and Andy put an appeal on Facebook.

The vet had also posted online in a bid to find the kitten’s owners and pub regulars spotted it.

Now Andy has put a further appeal on Facebook for information and also started a Just Giving page.

Larry had been found on the A6 on Friday evening. Cars were driving over him but he was passing under the body of the car without hitting any wheels.

Larry is now back home but traumatised by the ordeal.

Andy has looked at the pub’s CCTV but to no avail as those responsible are not obviously caught on it.

He said: “Cats will be able to adapt to physical injuries but it is the emotional part.

“The vet thinks he will not want to go outside again. He is back at home but very quiet and subdued.

“What happened was horrific but the response by the community has been heartwarming.”

Anyone wishing to help can visit facebook. com/andy.green.165 and find the Just Giving link.

Any surplus money will be donated to Woodstock Veterinary Surgery, a 24-hour emergency centre for animals.
