Windfalls for good causes as society’s fund pays out

VERNON Building Society’s £10,000 Jubilee Fund was awarded to successful local charity and community groups at a presentati­on evening held on November 24.

The groups were awarded funding from the Society’s Jubilee Fund to enable them to continue their work in the local area, with Stockport Express readers voting to determine each group’s share of the £10,000 fund.

Staff from Vernon Building Society also voted to award an additional £500 of funding to Beechwood Cancer Care – a Stockport-based organisati­on which provides incredible support free of charge to patients and their families affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

The Vernon’s chief executive, Mike Hanson, said: “Our Jubilee Fund continues to highlight the amazing work going on in Stockport. It’s great that these groups are receiving the recognitio­n that they deserve as well as funding.

“We will continue to keep in touch to hear more about their progress and how the fund has benefited them.”

The Vernon’s Jubilee Fund has donated over £50,000 of funding to more than 70 local charity and community groups since 2012.

The Society is also be selling a calendar featuring stunning photograph­s of the local area through their branches to raise money for the Jubilee Fund.
