Stagecoach takes movie fans on a festive film ride for charity

-

FESTIVE films lit up Stagecoach Manchester’s Hazel Grove Park and Ride as the bus operator raised £2400 for charity.

More than 1,100 people pulled into the park and ride to watch three festive classics The Santa Claus, Home Alone and the Muppets’ Christmas Carol.

Money raised from the entry fee was donated to Manchester-based charity, Prevent Breast Cancer – formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, which is Stagecoach Manchester’s charity partner.

Stagecoach Manchester managing director, Elisabeth Tasker, said: “Christmas is a great time of year when everyone comes together and we’re more than happy to kick off this year’s celebrations with our second drive-in cinema event.

“It really felt like Christmas had come early as we all enjoyed some festive classics while raising money for a worthy cause.

“The screenings were getting increasingly busy as the day went on and I would like to say thank you to the whole community that came out to support our event and particularly for helping to raise £2400 for Prevent Breast Cancer.

“From everyone at Stagecoach Manchester, we’d like to wish you a Happy Christmas.”

Nikki Barraclough, executive director at Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “We’re thrilled to have raised such an impressive sum through this event and we’d like to sincerely thank all those who came out to show their support and catch a festive film.

“Our research relies solely on donations, so fundraisers such as this drive-in are incredibly important in helping us reach our ultimate goal of predicting breast cancer, preventing people from developing the disease and protecting future generations.

”We’re incredibly grateful to Stagecoach for its continued support and the role it plays in helping to fund our work.”

Stagecoach’s previous support for the charity involved decking out one of its buses in Pink as part of the Take on the Tutu challenge.

This involved using a 26m long, four-layered tutu to decorate the bus which was then taken around MediaCity in Salford.

Staff at Stagecoach choose a charity to support every two years and voted strongly to support Prevent Breast Cancer when it was known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention.

The disease will affect one in eight women in the UK during their lifetimes.
