SCAN certificates in the making for Jim’s
I HAVE used before the analogy of the duck serenely drifting on the water whilst its legs feverishly belt away under the surface, to attempt to illustrate the work done behind the scenes at clubs like Stockport County.
In their 133 year history, Stockport County have had more senior players than any other English Premiership or Football League club (more than 1300 players). To celebrate this fact, the Supporters Cooperative decided that every player who has ever played a senior game for the Club, at FL or FA Cup level, would be issued with a unique acknowledgement of this fact in the form of a framed, wax stamped certificate lovingly hand crafted by our Calligrapher Brian Dixon. Thus, with the help and support of the Supporters Cooperative, SCAN was born, and a small team of dedicated individuals set about putting this unique scheme together.
The specially commissioned SCAN certificates are all presented by a Stockport County supporter, to the player ,former player or descendant.
Yours truly enjoyed the honour of being able to present the SCAN certificate to former County player Mike Harold with whom I went to school in the 1950s, and many other County supporters have enjoyed the same privilege in the six years that SCAN has been in existence.
The Scheme was launched at Edgeley Park on Saturday 16th October 2010 when a group of former players and descendents were invited back as guests of Stockport County to attend the County v Barnet game.
