Road crash tragedy man’s gift of life

AYOUNG man who died 12 days after being left seriously injured in a road smash has given the gift of life to others.

Declan Blackburne, 21, passed away during Monday night (December 5) with his family at his bedside.

He was left in a critical condition following the crash on Councillor Lane in Cheadle in the early hours of November 24.

Declan was in the passenger seat of a black Honda Civic when it ploughed into a tree and a telegraph pole.

In a statement his family said: “It’s with deep regret I have to inform you that a few short hours ago Declan has sadly passed away.

“Declan was loved and known by so many people.

“I have taken great comfort knowing that Declan has donated his organs to a few recipients that are in great need of them.

“It was his last wish to donate and has been carried out in accordance with his wishes.

“Declan has given people the gift of life today.

“Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers and wishes.”

His death also prompted scores of tributes from family and friends.

Jordan Adefeyisan wrote: “The heavens have been given another angel. May you rest in peace bro. Never forgotten.”

Jake Allatson wrote: “Actually can’t believe I’m writing this. I’m going to miss you so much mate. I’m never going to forget a single memory we’ve had.

“Take it easy big man. Rest in paradise brother.”

Vicky Louise Jones said: “My heart is broken.”

She continued: “You’ve left a gap in everybody’s life that will never be filled. You were the most caring, loyal, trustworth­y person anybody knew. It was the biggest pleasure to have known you. Ginge I’m so glad you were a part of all of our lives.”

A Justgiving page set up in his memory so that he can be given a ‘fitting send-off’ smashed its target, raising £3,000 in less than 12 hours.

A man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the incident. Mark Darren McCormack, 30, of no fixed address, was charged with failing to stop and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrate­s Court.
