STOCKPORT’S award-winning Foodie Friday gets into the festive spirit on national Christmas Jumper Day this Friday helping to raise funds for Save The Children.

The special Christmasthemed event starts at 6pm in Stockport Market Place and Market Hall and will feature 14 of the northwest’s best street food traders serving freshly cooked grub from around the world.

Foodie Friday, which is sponsored by Orbit Developments, Stockport’s biggest commercial landlord, usually takes place on the last Friday of the month throughout the year.

It has become a calendar event for the town centre, featuring live entertainment provided by Stockport’s up and coming local bands and musicians.

It also showcases the individual food and drink on offer from the Stockport Market indoor traders.

In October, Foodie Friday was awarded ‘Best Pop Up’ at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Gala Awards and continues to grow in popularity

Christmas Foodie Friday will feature live performances from Stockport Ukulele Players, NK Theatre Arts, James Barratt and his band and Mama Goose who will all be performing twice - in the Market Hall and in Seven Miles Out. There is also live music, food and drink on offer in Blackshaw’s Cafe during the event.

Foodie Friday runs until 9pm in Market Place and then visitors can continue their evening’s entertainment in venues such as Bakers Vaults, Remedy Bar and Brewhouse, The Cocked Hat, The Boar’s Head, The Arden Arms and The Petersgate Tap.

Organiser John Barratt of Seven Miles Out is urging everyone to come down with all the family wearing their Christmas jumpers to help the Save The Children appeal.

“This is a great end of year celebration for Foodie Friday,” he said.

“This year we’ve won the Manchester Food and Drink Festival award and have had massive support from local businesses and the great community of Stockport.

“We hope everyone will join us to celebrate the festive season in this unique and wonderful part of our great town and show their support for Save The Children on national Christmas Jumper Day.”
