Gannon eyes ‘one or two signings’

- SHELDAN KEAY

STOCKPORT County manager Jim Gannon hopes to make new signings at the club even though he is very happy with the squad he currently has.

The Hatters boss has been extremely impressed with his players in recent weeks, but insists that funds are there if needed.

“We’re constantly looking for players, but at the moment we have a squad that is looking good in terms of balance and depth,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have two left backs, two right backs, two goalkeepers, two big strikers and strength down the middle.

“All we need is a bit more quality in the final third, but that can come from the training ground or confidence in the New Year.

“The search is there though and if we need to sign somebody then we will do it at the right time, but currently we are delighted with the group of players that we have and trust them to get the right results. Their work rate and discipline is good, and if we can tidy up a few more things then there will be big improvements.”

County were victorious in their last game after picking up a 3-2 win against Marine in the FA Trophy, and Gannon says that can help the club financially. It’s not a tremendous amount of money but there was a good crowd, so our cut of that plus the prize money will certainly help us,” he said.

“It means in the New Year we can look at one or two players that keeps us strong and gives us a bit of quality so that games like that are not as close as they should be.”

Stockport will now hope to continue their good run of form when they are back in National League North action this weekend.

The Hatters host local rivals Altrincham at Edgeley Park, hoping to claim bragging rights over their neighbours.

County are currently ninth in the division, while Altrincham have struggled this season, finding themselves rock bottom of the table.

The teams met back in September, with Stockport winning 3-2 away from home.
