Reality TV star to be the next mayor
THE woman set to become the next Mayor of Stockport is a reality TV star who will follow in the footsteps of her husband.
Councillor Linda Holt, who represents Bramhall North, was proposed for the role at a council executive meeting and this is expected to be ratified at a full council meeting on January 19.
She has already been Mayoress of Stockport from 2003 to 2004 when her husband Ken Holt then also a councillor held the position of Mayor.
Linda appeared on Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me in 2011, five years after Ken appeared on The Great British Wedding.
Cameras followed his stag do ahead of the couple’s marriage.
Away from the TV cameras Linda has been a councillor for nine years and is current deputy leader of the Stockport Conservative Group.
She also chairs the children and young people’s scrutiny committee and is a member of the town centre committee, Solutions SK contributors committee and Life Leisure Funders Committee among others.
Linda said: “I am thrilled to be proposed as the next Mayor of Stockport.
“Having been a previous Deputy Mayor, I appreciate what an honour it is to be proposed for this role and will do my best to represent all the residents of the borough.
“I will also continue to work tirelessly for all the residents of our own ward of Bramhall North.”
Linda is a former training and recruitment manager for a bank and a campaigner on animal welfare issues.
Conservative Group leader, Coun Syd Lloyd said “It gives me immense pleasure that Coun Linda Holt’s name has been agreed to be placed before the January council meeting to be the borough’s Mayor.
“She will be a fantastic first citizen of the borough and I want to congratulate her on this appointment as Mayorelect, subject to the expected vote.”
During his year in office Ken - who is also a keen animal rights campaigner - refused to wear the Mayoral robes as they contained ermine fur.
When appearing on Come Dine With Me, Linda prepared a rags-to-riches-themed dinner filled with northern delicacies.
She also entertained her guests by playing the keyboard.
