Smashed windows cause delays on Metrolink line

VANDALS smashed in the windows of two trams and caused major disruption to the Metrolink network.

There were severe delays following the vandalism at Shadowmoss tram station, in Heald Green, just after 10pm on Wednesday night (January 4).

The yobs smashed the windows of two trams, which had to be taken out of service for safety reasons.

The incident caused disruption to Manchester Airport services.

There were no reports of any injuries and no arrests have been made.

Greater Manchester Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with informatio­n to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “We were called shortly before 10.05pm to reports of criminal damage at Shadowmoss Road. It was reported to us as damage to two trams and smashed windows. “Enquiries are ongoing.” A statement on the Metrolink website said: “Due to a police incident at Shadowmoss, we are currently experienci­ng severe delays.

“This is due to multiple acts of vandalism and two trams having windows being smashed and having to be taken out of service. We are sorry for any delay to your journey.”
