Carl is saddling up for another epic journey for cancer charity
A KICKBOXER is undertaking the most gruelling of New Year’s resolutions - to get fit for an 1,500 mile cycle ride.
Carl Thomas, 32, of central Stockport, has begun training for the epic bike ride, which will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
He will cycle around the UK, starting on June 30 and covering 150 miles a day with the exception of the final leg, which will be 300 miles and end in Vernon Park, Offerton.
It is part of a series of one extreme challenge a year until Carl turns 40 for his 4 a Reason campaign, which aims to raise £1million.
He decided to commit to the bike ride after meeting teenager Tom Garratt, who was diagnosed with cancer aged 17 and will take part in one of the legs.
Carl, who has not cycled since he was a child, said: “I know so many people who are dealing with or who have been through cancer and I have seen first-hand the long term effects that cancer has on both the individual and their friends and family.
“I want to make my challenge series as hard as possible for myself, so that we can generate as much money as possible to support Teenage Cancer Trust in everything that they do.
“I will do anything and I will finish every challenge.”
Carl, who lives on Hillgate, runs Energise Martial Arts Centre, in central Stockport.
His first challenge - 10 marathons in 10 days last year - raised around £15,000.
Tom said: “Carl’s campaign is really personal to me. My treatment stopped last November and I took six months off to relax and get back to normal.
I’m now working and I’m getting ready to help fundraise.”

“The challenge is extremely difficult and will mean Carl will be giving up a lot of his time to train leading up to the challenge.
