Boston’s got beer, pies... and parking

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

I’VE decided I like Boston. Over the years it hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for County, it’s an awful place to get to, but as a town, it’s great – plenty of places for a beer and a pie and wherever you park you’re only a few minutes from the ground.

Even York Street, or the Jakemans Stadium as the corporate section of the programme likes to call it, has an old fashioned football ground feel to it with loads of character. Or if you’re more pragmatic, it’s a right old dump!

There is a strong rumour that they have a plan for a new stadium, it’ll probably be another rectangular box full of seats with very little leg room, soulless!

Hopefully we’ll never have to visit it, as our form at the moment is brilliant, five wins and an unlucky draw in the last six is nothing short of play-off material and if we can keep the momentum then why not dream?

The pretty bits of Derbyshire were hidden by fog whilst Chesterfield and Mansfield were clear but just as grey and murky as they usually are.

We made good time and arrived in Boston with plenty of time for the fore-mentioned pie and pint. The faithful arrived in great numbers and from the kick off (still under grey skies) to final whistle made their presence felt.

The pitch was a pudding, stopping any genuine attempt at neat passing play.

The home side seemed to have one tactic, kick it long to the number seven and let him chase it, which he did again and again but as he had no help it seemed a fruitless task.

The lads in White tried to create something and in so doing carved out two great chances that enabled us to bring the points home.

Firstly, Lewis Montrose (having another great game) played an exquisite, defence splitting pass into the path of Danny Lloyd, who did what Danny Lloyd does and slotted the ball home from the tightest of angles.

Secondly, we soaked up some pressure and with Danny and Kaine Felix bursting out of our half – and it has to be said, some unselfish play from the loanee – we went two up. Fantastic.

We had other chances in the game, there were at least two decent penalty shouts and Michael Clarke had a header that went narrowly wide.

But Jimmy Gannon’s blue and white army go marching on.
