Mike’s story tells of help for homeless
WE have contact with hundreds of people at The Wellspring and everyone’s situation and circumstances tend to be different in some way.
Below is Mike’s story and his experience of The Wellspring and homelessness in Stockport. Mike’s story: A few years ago I was made homeless due to a breakdown in the relationship I was in and I had no fixed address for quite a while. During this time I slept on friends’ sofas, in the backs of cars or vans, and for a while, on the streets of Stockport.
At the time I had no one to turn to, no one that could help and I really hit rock bottom – or so I thought.
A friend of a friend mentioned the Wellspring, who I had heard of but didn’t really know anything about.
On entering the establishment I was greeted with a warm welcome from a lovely receptionist who asked if she could help and I broke down crying. I was taken into a side room where I was offered a warm drink and a sandwich and she proceeded to explain to me what the Wellspring had to offer. I was amazed.
She advised me on a couple of next steps I could take and if there was anything they could do they would be glad to help.
Some of the people there had it a hell of a lot worse than me and the experience truly opened my eyes to what the real homeless situation was like in Stockport.
Several years later after going back to night school and completing my GCSEs I’m working in the fitness industry (I’ve just qualified as a life guard too) I am in a relationship with a woman who is honestly my rock and just recently moved in with her and two of her daughters who I love with all my heart and soul.
I am fitter, faster, sharper and emotionally and physically in the best shape of my life and honestly, I believe, this is all down to the Wellspring.
