CHADS THEATRE

IN A Slight Ache, there are three characters: Flora, an aptly named middle age woman who loves to garden, and her husband Edward, a very Edwardian type more concerned with reliving his past explorations than with his wife’s gardening. The third character is a match seller who has been planting himself for sometime – regardless of the weather – just outside their garden.

The play takes place on the longest day of the year and Flora’s garden is in full bloom.

So far so Ayckbourn, but there are hints of something darker lingering just below the surface.

In Landscape, a man and a woman sit at either end of a long table, in the kitchen of a great house.

Who are they and why are they there?

Visit Chads Theatre to find out!

This double bill is on from Wednesday, February 15, to Saturday 18, at 7.45pm in the Studio, and tickets are £6.50.

You can book online for free or call the box office on 0333 666 3366 (telephone bookings are subject to a £1.50 transaction fee per booking) Or just turn up and pay on the door! Online bookings are completely free. DI Lawson

SEVEN MILES OUT

AT Seven Miles Out we love to champion the young up-and-coming bands from Stockport and give them a platform to showcase their talent.

The spotlight that has been put on the town by the amazing success of Blossoms will shine even brighter as more and more young bands are inspired to follow in their footsteps and before you know it, we have a vibrant music scene.

With the current interest stimulated by the 50th anniversary of Strawberry Studios and the #Strawberry50 exhibition at Stockport Museum, it would be fantastic to see a new generation of musicians building on the legacy of our iconic studios for the future benefit of the town.

For those of you who love to support our home-grown talent, this Friday at 7.30pm we are hosting ‘The Sound of the Suburbs’ – a live music night that focuses on upand-coming musicians from all around the borough.

The line-up includes singer-songwriter Beth Calton, of Werneth School, young band Searching for the Enemy from St. James’ High School in Cheadle Hulme, and The Outsiders, from Bramhall High School.

Seven Miles Out is a great place to watch live music as it offers an intimate and friendly environment for musicians where everyone is welcome, although under16s must be accompanied by an adult.

On Saturday evening, we are delighted to host our monthly retro vinyl night ‘Sound and Vision’ with DJ James ‘The Vinyl Frontier’ Collard playing classic tracks from past decades.

‘Sound and Vision’ has become something of a phenomenon as it offers a relaxed club night atmosphere where people can have a dance and let their hair down among friends.

‘Sound & Vision’ has been likened to ‘a youth club for adults’ and ‘having a party in your front room’ and this special atmosphere is very much a result of the hard work of our hostess, Vicki Collard, who puts together the evening’s playlist and befriends everyone who comes so that everyone feels part of the event.

‘Sound & Vision’ harks back to the great club nights of the ’80s when people would dress up and go to the Bowie and futuristic nights at Pips and Legend, so if this is your era, or if you just like great dance music, come on down.

Entry for our events is free and if you’d like to find out more, visit our website at www.sevenmilesoutarts.co.uk ROSEMARY Barratt

STOCKPORT PLAZA

ON Sunday, February 19, at 7.30pm The Stockport Plaza is proud to be screening our latest classic film on the giant silver screen The Girl Can’t Help It (Cert U). Often called the best rock ’n’ roll film ever made, this high-powered, high voltage comedy features music by Fats Domino, Little Richard and the Platters – and introduces the world to a blonde bombshell named Jayne Mansfield!

Miss Mansfield is sensational as moll Jerri Jordan to Edmond O’Brians Marty Murdock, the mobster determined to make her a singing star. The trouble begins when Murdock hires talent Agent Tom Miller (Tom Ewell) to groom her – the problem being Miller quickly realises that she can’t sing a note – and that he’s completely in love with her.

The sing-along screening of the classic film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John is brought to The Stockport Plaza on Friday, February 17, by the producers of Sing-aLong-a Sound of Music.

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets and grease up those quiffs and remember – Grease is the word...

The evening begins with your host leading a vocal warm-up before they show you how to use your magic moments fun packs.

You’ll even get a chance to learn how to hand jive.

Then just sit back and watch Danny and Sandy and the gang, while singing and dancing along to the lyrics as shown on the screen.

It couldn’t be easier... or more fun. Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential.

Tickets for the sensational big screen feature The Girl Can’t Help It and Sing-a-LongGrease (Cert. PG) can be purchased in person from The Plaza box office on Mersey Square in the heart of Stockport, by calling our booking line on 0161 477 7779, or by visiting The Plaza web site at www.stockportplaza.co.uk TED Doan
