Charity gift gets George on the move

-

A YOUNG boy who suffers from severe cerebral palsy and epilepsy has got his very own set of wheels thanks to a national children’s charity.

George Rawcliffe, 10, from Bramhall has had the conditions from birth and is unable to communicate with his family.

Up until recently he was only able to move around with the help of a walking frame.

However, thanks to a donation from The Boparan Charitable Trust his family have been able to purchase a specialist trike, which will allow him to move around unaided and will also help build up his muscles, aiding his independence.

George’s mum, Nicola Rawcliffe, said: “I hadn’t heard of The Boparan Trust – George’s physio found it when she was researching any charities that might be able to help us.

“These trikes are incredibly expensive – around £1,200, as they need to have all the safety features and are fitted specially.”

And she says having the trike has made a big difference to George’s life.

“He uses it every day at school,” she said. “He goes to a special needs school, Valley School in Bramhall, and all the other children will be running around in the playground. Having the trike means he is able to join in.

“He is a different boy, full of so much energy and life.”

Nicola says George has had a trike in the past but it was bought secondhand. “It was a good piece of kit but it wasn’t the same,” she added.

“They came and fitted this one specially for him, and it is fantastic.”

Baljinder Boparan, from the trust, said: “We are delighted that George has taken to the trike so well, it is fantastic to see the progress he has made and how much it means to his family.”

The Boparan Charitable Trust is a national children’s charity that works to transform the loves of children with disabilities, life-limiting conditions and in extreme poverty.
