ABAND who have gained an international following have released their latest track as they bid to become Stockport’s latest musical success.

The Templars recorded a six-song EP during a week-long visit to Portugal and from it released the track Hope on Friday.

While over in Montijo, near Lisbon, the group became the first to record in their producer Andre Eusebio’s new studio.

He had been promoting the band ahead of their arrival so they already had a fan base to perform a celebratory concert to.

And the Templars have created their own wristbands that, in a competition the group has run by social media, have been pictured across the globe as far away as Brazil and the USA.

Lead singer and guitarist Glenn Coope, 23, from Offerton, said: “We were the first band to record in the studio and we pretty much lived in there so we could eat, sleep and breath music.

“We played our first international gig and word of mouth from our promoter meant we already had a following.

“There were people singing our songs and asking us for photos or autographs. It was great to have fans in another country.”

Other members of the band are lead guitarist Scott Kincaid, 21, from Brinnington, Kenny Chiu, 23, from Shaw Heath, on bass and Bury-based drummer Jack Keogh, 18.

The group formed a year ago having previously played with other acts and describe their new single, which is available on iTunes and Spotify, as indie-pop.

Glenn took footage of their week in Portugal and has edited it into a video to accompany the single.

The plan is for another track to be released next month before the EP becomes available another month later.

The Templars are hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Stockport band Blossoms, who have had a number one album and have been nominated for a Brit Award.

Glenn said: “We interact with our fans on social media a lot and a couple had the chance to hear the new track early.

“From a small amount of people who heard it, it had a good reception but it’s hard to know what expectations to have before it’s released.

“It is a very hard industry to get into but with how big Blossoms are it drives you on to work hard. They have shown a band from Stockport can explode onto the big time and it inspires us.”
