Up to speed with the county game
STOCKPORT Golf Club were great hosts for a Cheshire County Ladies Association Delegates Meeting where there was a full attendance of delegates from local clubs who were brought up to date with various topical items in county golf.
Present were top county officials led by County Captain Barbara Baird (Vicars Cross) and Lady President Judith Wainwright (Ringway GC) and England golf representatives Sean Hammill and Gareth Shaw with the event hosted by Stockport Lady Captain Diane Jowsey.
Among the matters presented and discussed with informative comments were: 1 How does the county become more pro-active with their golf clubs, 2 How do they encourage more members to enter County competitions, 3 The role of a club delegate, 4 Issues raised by clubs, particularly communications.
A County Handicap Advisor was also present to answer any queries on CONGU and the county fixture cards and County Senior fixture books were issued.
Diane said: “It was good to see the links strengthened between the clubs and county officials and there was a great deal of useful information given out to all of the delegates to take back to their clubs.”
The meeting was one of three being held in Cheshire with the other two being hosted at Bromborough and Delamere Forest Golf Clubs for clubs in their area.
Disley soccer legend Rod Seddon showed his sporting class in a Stableford at Disley posting 38 points to win a from Jim Hunt and Jonathan Booth.
Chasing hard with 37 points were Sandy Dunlop, Tony Collinson and Les Davidson.
Disley ladies played a 14-hole Stableford and leading in with 26 points was Lynn Lush from Gill Robinson 24 and the ever-consistent Ann McCormick 24.
Romiley’s men played a ‘Putin’s Puttin Pairs’ competition with JM Reid and MJ Reid leading in with 75 points from Colin McManus and grandson Matt Murray 68 and DJ Worthington and JA Parke 67.
In a Pairs Scramble at Romiley Mark Worsley and A Walker won a cpo on 42 points from RF Hewitt and Nick Madden with Anthony Cocks and Bradley Snape one off their pace.
Romiley ladies also enjoyed two competitions and in a Three Ball Stableford the top trio were Hebden, Houghton and Ludford with 65 points from Hewitt, Walker and Schofield 61.
This was followed by a 15-hole Yellow Ball and leading in with 63 points were Williams, Woolstencroft and Godfrey, three more than Worthington, Harrison and Dixon.
Cheadle ladies played two 9-hole Stableford and in the first one Barbara Collier was out on her own with 19 points from Chani Ganatra 11. In the second competitions Barbara Collier made hers a double posting 20 points to lead in from Maire Eaton 19 and Pat Smith 15.
Mellor and Townscliffe ladies were also in double mode and in a 12-hole singles Stableford Carys Briggs was first past the post with 28 points, two more than Patricia Phillips and Karen Jones.
Ina 15-hole Stableford Karen Jones was top of the shop with 35 points well clear of Eileen Lewis 31 and Lauren Jones 30.
M and T’s men played a singles Stableford in two divisions and top of the big guns in division one was Nicholas Marsland with 28 points ahead of Mike Anderson 27 and John Heginbotham 26. SJ Cropper led in division two with 30 points from Philip Baker and Philip Fielding, both 28.
A Men’s Winter League at Heaton Moor saw D Deauville and Mark Quilligotti on top with 38 points from D McManus and D Cumancord.
