Warning over scam emails

-

TOWN hall bosses in Stockport are warning people to be on their guard for an email scam.

The message uses a United Partnership signature and asks people to supply their bank card information so they can be issued with a council tax refund – but no such refund exists.

Council tax bands are determined by the Valuation Office, which advises people to contact them if they believe the banding is incorrect.

There is no charge for registering an appeal; to find out more visit stockport.gov.uk/ counciltax.

The council says the most secure way to pay is through direct debit and payments can also be accepted online via the council website.

Councillor Sheila Bailey said: “Any residents that receive this e-mail should immediately delete it. If in doubt, report it first.

“Scammers need to know that Stockport residents aren’t easily fooled.”
