Stockport Express

Fab fundraiser set to boost our work

- JONATHAN BILLINGS Project manager at The Wellspring homeless charity in Stockport

ON Friday, April 7, we have a fantastic fundraising event taking place at The Wellspring, where we will be hosting a Silent Auction at the project on Harvey Street from 7pm.

If you’ve never been to a silent auction, then it works by giving everyone who attends a numbered ticket.

Around the main room at The Wellspring will be all the items up for auction, people make their way around the room and write their bid and number onto a sheet that accompanies the item they want to purchase.

Lots of items are in the auction from football merchandise signed by Lionel Messi, Louis Suarez and Naymar to a fabulous Chloe handbag.

Lots and lots of other items will be auctioned the silent way in the evening.

Tickets are £10 including a drink and a hot pot supper.

Tickets can be booked by contacting Pauline on 01614272763.

Tickets will also be available on the door.

Please come along and support this event.

Holding fundraising events at The Wellspring is a great way for people to get an insight into the work that the charity does volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions and give tours of the project.

I am greatly concerned at the rising number of people who are currently rough sleeping in Stockport.

We currently have the highest number of rough sleepers in the borough for many years.

Hostel places are difficult to obtain due to this very high demand, leaving lots of people to sleep rough on the streets.

This is not a Stockport problem but a very concerning issue for almost every single local authority in the UK.

Homeless people are facing many challenges on our streets including rising numbers of assaults.

The Spice epidemic is currently reaping havoc among homeless community’s right across the UK.

I don’t see the government doing much about these problems and other problems that homeless and disadvantaged people face.
