NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) – the organisation that commissions the borough’s health services, has added a new face to its governing body.

Christine Morgan, who lives in the Heald Green area, has been appointed as a lay member to the board of Stockport CCG with special responsibility for Primary Care.

The new role will provide additional external perspective, challenge and scrutiny to the work of the CCG but, as chair of the primary care commissioning committee, Christine will also play a vital role in overseeing this newly-delegated work.

As a lay member on the board, she will also champion patient involvement in the decision-making process of the CCG.

Christine brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held a number of comparable positions at local, regional and national level.

Her professional background includes a full-time career in education, with leadership roles in schools and local authority and voluntary work with two national charities, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Mind.

Her career in education was cut short by illness and disability, due to arthritis and spinal problems, and since then Christine has devoted her time to a number of non-executive, lay member and expert patient roles. as significant positions on national patient advisory groups.

More recently Christine was appointed chair of the Stockport Citizens Representation Panel, which is reviewing the plans for the integration of health and social care in the borough and will ensure any planned changes are in the best interest of the local population.

Christine said: “I feel honoured to be working with Stockport CCG at a time of great change and development in health and social care.

“I will work with the CCG using a person centred approach to make improvements that aim to support people in what really matters to them.”
