Sweep goes Bulldogs’ way at Edge

THE final day of the Terry Nichols four-aside sweep took place at Alderley Edge on Saturday.

In the quarter finals The Bulldogs swept aside Congleton Park picking up all four winners.

John Davies had a real scare just pipping Cedric Bancroft 21-19 in the ties only close game.

There was a shock in the bottom half of the draw as the fancied Queens Park were beaten by Crosstown.

Glen Beeley’s side Absolutely Cursed progressed to set up a semi final with Mark Winnington’s Cheshire Cheese.

It was another clean sweep in the semi finals for Mike Bacon’s Bulldogs as Davies, Bramley, Raymond and Barlow all won again.

The other semi final needed a Glen Beeley comeback to aid Absolutely Cursed over the line.

The final began with Jamie Bramley defeating Chris Heyes and Andy Raymond seeing off Dean Ferris.

It was soon 3-0 to the Bulldogs as John Davies got some revenge for last week over Glen Beeley.

In an amazing afternoon the Bulldogs wrapped up 12 winners from 12 games with Chris Barlow’s win over Jack Hargeaves.

Captain Mike Bacon was presented with the trophy and the £400 first prize.

The second leg of the Intertown challenge took place at Lune Road in Lancaster with Stockports winter team taking a 43 chalk buffer up north.

The event in its fourth year has always been won by the team from South Lakes skippered by Thomas Dennison.

This time however Love Lane were on fire and took an amazing eight winners from fourteen singles matches.

Ian Stokes was in peerless form as he strolled away with the man of the match award for his superb 21-10 victory.

Also performing well on the day were Leigh Smith and Andy Raymond who produced quality performanc­es in there matches.

Paul Dooley and John Hignett Jnr also produced winning debuts on the tricky Lune Road surface.

South Lakes got some bragging rights back in the pairs with two winning games from three matches.

In the end though Love Lane won by 14 away and 43 at home for a resounding success and lifted the trophy.

In a busy weekend the Woodley Classic’s latest qualifiers were Andy Cairns, Paul Dudley, Noel Burrows and Craig Richardson.

Finally, Houldswort­h WMC were comprehens­ively beaten in the world club championsh­ips by Greville Arms.
