Lions lead turned over by Borough

- HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE BACUP BOROUGH 2 STOCKPORT TOWN 1 ANDREW CROMPTON

STOCKPORT Town lost out 2-1 away at Bacup Borough in the Hallmark Security League on Saturday at the Brian Boys West View Stadium.

Daryl Grant had given the Lions a half-time lead before goals from Bacup’s James Constantine and Adrian Bellamy saw Brent Peters’ side turn the match around.

Dave Wild’s Stockport raced out of the blocks and took the lead after six minutes thanks to Lee Constantine’s lovely weighted through-ball which found Grant who slotted past Joshua Harris in goal.

The Lions almost doubled their lead minutes later following a great moved down the left, Conor Downes finding Ben Halfacre who headed down for Jamie Hinchcliffe to strike. Harris did well to save but a stronger shot and it may well have been two inside 13 minutes.

Bacup were gifted a glorious opportunity to get back into the match after being awarded a penalty minutes before half-time, however Daniel Whiting saved Bellamy’s penalty to see his Lions go in ahead at the break.

The second half saw the home side get back into the match as Rio WilsonHeyes received a wonderful cross-field pass before working a shot on Town’s goal that whisked just wide of the post.

However within five minutes of the restart and Bacup were back in the game, James Constantine pounced in the box from Bellamy’s header, as the striker stroked the ball into the net past Whiting.

Peters’ side would then go on to take the lead following a balanced spell in the game as Bellamy made up for his earlier penalty miss, stabbing home a shot from Thomas Coulson’s freekick into the Stockport area.

Stockport would throw everything forward in the latter stages of the match seeking a late equaliser but Bacup’s defence held on to earn them a first win in three games.

Wild had to gather his squad for a quick turnaround as the Lions were back in action on Tuesday evening in the rearranged away trip to Atherton LR following two previous postponements.
