Draw means we must win all our games

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

SITTING in front of the PC trying to digest the results and the frustration of Saturday’s result is doubled.

We have to regard the 1-1 draw with Nuneaton as two points dropped, add to that the fact that, with the exception of Darlington, all of our play-off rivals won and you can understand my feelings.

I had a couple of neutrals sat behind me, their assessment was we’d witnessed a really good game of football; entertaining, end to end and full of commitment, while I was left wondering how we didn’t bag all three points.

In the first half especially we had numerous chances to open the scoring; Sefton Gonzales turned one over the bar when it looked easier to hit the back of the net, Connor Hampson had two goal bound efforts cleared of the line as did Harry Winter and when Danny Lloyd hit both post and crossbar you’d have been forgiven for thinking that it wasn’t going to be our day.

How we ended the half goalless is hard to fathom.

But as has happened so often this season, Jim wielded his half time magic and with the introduction of Kaine Felix County had instant success.

Kaine has speed and he used it to effect playing in Sefton who was brought down in the box and thankfully the referee agreed with the vast majority of the Edgeley Park crowd and pointed to the spot where Danny confidently slotted the ball home.

The visitors, full timers and the form team in the division remember, turned on the pressure.

Having said that their goal came by the way of a huge deflection that let Ben Hinchliffe with no chance at all, we still had chances Danny and Kaine tormented their respective full backs but Nuneaton’s defence held firm before they themselves took hold of the game.

Whether it was the fact that they’re full timers or it was down to our tiredness but the visitors had the upper hand and we just might have been thankful of the final whistle.

The result means that next week’s match and if we’re honest, those over the next month have all become must-win games.

Things are so tight at the moment and some of the teams around us will drop points but if we keep our composure, keep our shape, then we’ll beat Gainsborough and get our goals for column improved.
