Mural was a bright idea

-

PATIENTS at one of Stepping Hill Hospital’s X-ray departments now have a more colourful welcome thanks to a Stockport College art student mural.

George Cunningham, 20, from Offerton produced a spectacular painting of wild animals for X-Ray A department, where outpatients wait for their X-ray images.

With a team effort the mural was completed in a few days- working into the evenings when the main waiting room is not used.

George completed the painting with the help of his friends Natasha Holmes and Elizabeth Simmons, both from Reddish.

George said: “My design is in a waiting room next to a children’s play area on the hospital, so I wanted the design to be childfriendly rather than childish. I hope the mural is absorbing and soothing for all the patients.”

Radiographer Sally Hubbard said: “This is a wonderful colourful design which has really brightened up the waiting room for our patients and for the staff too. I’d like to thank George, Natasha and Elizabeth for all the time and effort they’ve put in, and Stockport College for helping make it possible.”

The X-ray department sees around 2,000 patients a week.
