Academy on awards shortlist

STAFF and students at Stockport Academy are hoping that they will be top of the class after the school was shortliste­d for a national award.

The academy, in Cheadle Heath, is a finalist in the secondary school of the year category in the Times Educationa­l Supplement’s school awards.

It is one of only eight in the country to make the shortlist and principal Frank McCarron has paid tribute to his team.

He said: “Just to be shortliste­d for this prestigiou­s award is a huge honour and a fantastic testament to the hard work that everyone from students to staff, parents and governors have put into a school which we are all extremely proud of.”

The winner of secondary school of the year will be announced at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on June 23.

Stockport Academy, on Heathbank Road, has won two consecutiv­e MEN Schools Awards. It was awarded website of the year in 2016 and headteache­r of the year in 2015.
