THESE are exciting times at Edgeley Park just now, and busy ones too for those of us involved with the Supporters Cooperative.
The Club organised a ‘Fans Forum ‘ on Thursday evening. Now, I am not a great fan of Fans Forums and am aware that others share an element of scepticism with myself on the subject. The perception being that the supporters are fed bromides and platitudes by the top table to keep them sweet and in line.
Times have changed , as I have said before in this column, at County, and so has the attitude of both the Club board and supporters to one and other.
Thursday’s event, was well attended with around 80 County supporters almost filling the room to hear County Directors Steve Bellis and Gary Burton along with Commercial Manager Simon Dawson, explain off field matters prior to James Gannon joining them later to head up discussions on the playing side.
The meeting, chaired by Pure FM’s Chris Ridgway, went off really well. The major issues were all addressed, and the meeting was pleased to hear confirmation that debts were reducing on schedule and that ultimately would be reduced further when time is right for the Club. The commercial side of things was doing exceptionally well, and the incorporation of Alan Lord’s Academy was deemed to be a really positive step that will benefit the Club and its young players for years to come.
A training facility was a big priority for the Club and negotiations were ongoing on this.
