Break rather than make Easter time

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

FOR teams like County, chasing promotion, or, teams like Telford and Worcester, trying to avoid relegation the Easter period is a pivotal time of the season.

Games in quick succession that could make or break the previous nine months work.

For us and our team it looks like all might come to nought, after a battling season, so much improved on the previous three, we’re looking at other teams to fail or sneak in the play-off back door thanks to Darlington’s failure to fit enough seats into their ground.

Of our two games, Telford, with very little to play for, showed some fight and spirit, without ever really threatening Ben Hinchliffes goal.

While Worcester, ignoring the fact that they’ve only won one game since November, fought for everything and, if I’m honest brought a man of the match performance out of Ian Ormson.

Make no mistake dear reader neither Telford nor Worcester were any great shakes they were to put it bluntly, rubbish. However they came up against a County side that seemed bereft of ideas and lacked the basic skills.

We gave away possession far too easily and when the chance came to, at least make an attempt on goal, we played the ball sideways or treated the ball like a hot potato.

It appears we have one tactic, play the ball to Danny and let him work some magic, the only problem with that of course is that Danny can’t do it on his own all the time and when he has an off day (which he’s entitled to have) then County do too.

There’s too many players, strikers in particular that aren’t pulling their weight. Big K, Josh Amis, Sefton and John Marsden have all been guilty of not taking their share of the responsibility and it could cost us dear.

Injuries to Minnion and Felix left us short on the RHS and with Chris Smalley still out Michael Clark had both Mark Ross and then Max Cartwright to share the centre back roll but we can’t use that as an excuse for the recent lacklustre displays.

We have hope, hope that we can somehow pull two wins out of the last two games, Salford and Chorley could conceivably drop points but even if we do make the play-offs and it’s a big IF, we’ll have to make a massive improvement because on the recent performances there’s no way we’ll get past Halifax or Kidderminster.
