New baby mum has ‘amazing’ marathon

AMUM who ran the London Marathon in under fourand-a-half hours just seven months after giving birth described the experience as ‘absolutely amazing’.

Sian Dobson-Hughes, 32, from Cheadle took on the gruelling 26.2-mile race to raise cash for Francis House Children’s Hospice – and was cheered on by friends and family, including her little boy Albie.

She said: “It was a fantastic event. It was nervewracking beforehand, I spent the last week imaging pretty much every possibility of what could happen, but it was amazing.

“I ran with my training partner Lauren Iredale, who was also running for Francis House, and we managed to stay together for the whole course. It was great because there were moments when we were able to support and cheer each other on.

“For me the last three kilometres were really hard and she had a bit of a wobble around mile 20. The atmosphere was brilliant and the supporters were incredible – it was one of those moments when things are a bit surreal, you think ‘am I really doing this?’.”

The marathon took place on Albie’s sevenmonth birthday and Sian was back out training when he was just six weeks old.

She said: “It did make training more of a challenge.

“I got a training buggy so I could run with him, which was great. It felt really good to start running again after all that time away from it.”

And London wasn’t even Sian’s first marathon since Albie’s birth – in March she and her husband Rory Scott took part in the Limassol Marathon in Cyprus.

“I massively missed running when I was pregnant and I wanted to challenge myself as soon as possible,” she said.

“We chose Francis House not just because they care for the child or young person with lifelimiting conditions but they also support the whole family, often for many years, through the difficult times they face.”

Lauren added: “The months of training have been gruelling but when you come to Francis House it’s incredible and it’s only here because of donations from lots of people.”
