Cancer fighters offered support

-

LOCAL people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses are being offered free places on a new wellbeing programme to help them manage symptoms and improve their quality of life.

The free six-week course is being run by experts from St Ann’s Hospice in Little Hulton, and anyone from Greater Manchester affected by a life-limiting illness is welcome to attend.

The course, which runs on Wednesday afternoons from today (May 3) onwards, will include sessions on managing energy levels, healthy eating, dealing with stress, spirituality, living with breathlessness, and relaxation.

Rachel McMillan, deputy chief executive and director of Clinical Services at St Ann’s, said: “A huge part of our clinical strategy at the hospice is to ensure we’re reaching as many people as possible that would benefit from our support.

“People often don’t realise the breadth of advice and services hospices offer to patients and their families and we’re always looking at new ways to ensure as many local people as possible can receive the information or care that they need.

“The Wellbeing Group is a great example of how we can help patients to improve the quality of their lives, by sharing our knowledge and expertise and supporting them through their journey. We’re hoping to see lots of local people joining us for the free sessions.”

The hospice delivers a range of services and provides support for local patients both from St Ann’s three hospice sites in Little Hulton, Heald Green and the Neil Cliffe Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, and in local communities too.
