National KO win caps Green double
HAWK Green started off their weekend double header with a comfortable victory at Hadfield.
The home team batted first and scored 123 all out with all the Green bowlers in the wickets led by Jason Downey and Jack Needham with Ryan Stringer and Mark Richards supporting.
In reply, the Green strolled to victory with Peter Richards and Jack Needham comfortably steering the visitors towards their target within six wickets, with Needham closing on 62 not out.
On Sunday the Green travelled to Wales to play Northop in the National Village Knock Out.
Northop elected to bat first and set of at a steady pace.
Jason Downey was bowling quick and aggressively and eventually he removed two of the Northop batsmen in quick succession and with the help of a run out Northop were now struggling aagainst the Green attack and the introduction of Brad Holmes and Peter Richards put a stranglehold on the innings which eventually closed on 143.
Mark Stringer and skipper Josh Unsworth opened the Greens innings and the skipper played some delightful shots before succumbing to a slower ball and Mark Stringer fell to a wonder catch.
This brought Peter Richards and Jack Needham together and once again they did not fail, taking the Green almost to the winning line before Richards fell and Ben Littler helped Needham to victory with no problems, Needham closing on 58 not out to complete a very successful weekend.
