Soap stars turn out for Luke

-

CELEBRITIES will try and be stars on the pitch at a charity football match organised by a seriously ill young boy.

Luke Chapman, 11, of Romiley, has pitted a team from TV soap Hollyoaks against an XI of ‘everyday superheroes’ which contains firemen, doctors and nurses.

They will play at Woodley Sports FC, on Lambeth Grove, on Sunday in aid of children’s charity When You Wish Upon a Star.

Luke was born with a complex set of heart defects and has since had four lots of open heart surgery and many other operations.

The charity organises trips and experiences for poorly children and their families. After it helped Luke go to Disneyland he decided to give something back and has so far raised more than £41,000 with numerous events.

Mum Kelly Chapman said: “The charity gave our family much more than a wish. They came along when things had been so tough that we wondered if we would ever go anywhere again.

“They took away all the stress involved with organising such a magical trip which gave us the confidence to relax and enjoy it.”

The event will see Manchester United fan Luke, who also lives with dad Kurt and little sister Lottie, combine his loves of football, fundraising and superheroes. He will manage the ‘everyday superheroes’ team.

At the event there will also be an appearance from former Gladiators star Saracen.

Gates open at 1pm, with kick off 1.45pm. Tickets are £5 on the door.
