Providing services for people who are at risk is crucial
THE Wellspring staff are currently working with over 100 people who are either street homeless in Stockport or sofa surfing.
This is an incredibly high figure and is a massively concerning sign of the times.
People often ask me what the reasons are for people becoming homeless.
Homelessness has many causes and more often than not it is a combination of many things that has led to someone becoming homeless.
Debt issues, family and relationship breakdowns thrown in to the mix including addictions, lifestyle choices, health problems, benefits issues and many others.
At The Wellspring we have a dedicated team of project staff who are actively addressing these issues and providing intensive support to other people who are at risk of homelessness.
Providing services to people who are at risk is crucially important.
Without the amount of proactive preventative support work around homelessness issues that The Wellspring staff team do every single day of the year, the current homelessness situation in Stockport would without a shadow of a doubt be much worse than it is.
These dedicated workers at The Wellspring are funded by the community of Stockport, it is your donations and fundraising that keeps our staff team and services in place.
Wellspring receives no financial support from The Council, Government or The Lottery.
Wellspring has many upcoming fundraising events, details of which can be found on our website www.thewellspring.co.uk or via Facebook by searching Face- book for The Wellspring Stockport. Please come along to a Wellspring event and show your support for people who find themselves homeless in our town.
On Friday, May 19 we are hosting a Spring recital by international pianist Patrick Hemmerle in the stunning Hallam Hall at Stockport Grammar School.
Tickets are £12 and available from Peter on 0161 427 4700.
Please come along!
