Kyle relishing home comforts

-

STOCKPORT’S Kyle Hornby is in confident mood as the Renault UK Clio Cup heads to his ‘home’ round at Oulton Park in Cheshire, following steady improvements from the former Ginetta racer, at the opening three rounds of the 2017 Championship.

The Team Pyro racer will be competing around Oulton’s ‘Island’ configuration, a 2.226mile circuit set in rolling Cheshire countryside. Oulton has seen some prestigious names grace it’s Tarmac over the years. Formula One Champions Jackie Stewart, Jenson Button, and Lewis Hamilton have all tread the historic parkland track.

And with mention of Hamilton, there’s a new entry to the UK Clio Cup for what will be Rounds 7&8 of the Championship; Nicolas Hamilton, brother of triple Formula One World Champion, Lewis, joins the Series for the rest of the 2017 campaign.

Kyle, on the back of an eventful few races at Thruxton, in Hampshire, where the Hazel Grove youngster avoided several incidents to take some solid finishes in his first year at the wheel of a Renault Clio.

“I’ve had constant improvements in every round so far” said Hornby. “I’d like to carry that on to Oulton Park. I love the circuit and I’m looking forward to entertaining guests coming to my home race. I’ve never been on the track before in a Clio, however I believe we will get some good results. My focus point is to improve Qualifying, because it has been poor so far this year.”

The Race weekend runs across the 20/21 May with Qualifying and Race One on Saturday 20th, and Race Two on Sunday 21st May, live on ITV4.
