COUNTY fans and players came together to celebrate the club’s End of Season awards on Saturday evening, with midfielder Lewis Montrose retaining his Player of the Year gong ahead of departed top goalscorer Danny Lloyd.

The popular 28-yearold, who recently penned a two-year deal to extend his stay at Edgeley Park, pipped forward Lloyd to the award in a supporterled vote after yet another impressive campaign for Montrose.

The former York man, who has been the subject of reported interest from a number of clubs during his excellent stint with The Hatters since his arrival in the summer of 2015, has been an ever-present for Jim Gannon’s men this season and took home the award for the second successive season.

Lloyd seemed set to claim the award after a campaign in which the Liverpudlian scored 29 goals and claimed 19 assists. He left Edgeley Park to join League One side Peterborough on Monday.

The ex-Fylde winger, who became the Hatters’ marquee signing last summer under Gannon, has penned a three-year deal with The Posh after his contract expired at County. A new deal was offered to the 25-year-old by Gannon, but the lively attacker “jumped at the chance” to play full-time professional football in the Football League.

Lloyd departed Edgeley Park having just claimed the Goal of the Season award for his spectacular stoppage-time piledriver in a 1-1 FA Trophy draw with Brackley in January, while wing-back Sam Minihan capped a stellar debut season by capturing the Young Player of the Season award.
