Praising MP does not take into account his voting record . . .

-

THE letter in the Stockport Express of May 17 praising Tory Hazel Grove MP William Wragg takes no account of his shocking voting record in the House of Commons.

Mr Wragg voted 22 times for a reduction in the welfare benefits of the poorest and most needy people.

He voted eight times against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability.

In short, he was lobby fodder for a callous government that has consistently damaged the life chances of the most vulnerable people in our society.

By contrast, he voted three times against higher taxes on banks.

He also voted nine times against measures to prevent climate change and twice against laws to promote equality and human rights.

As if that were not bad enough, citizens of Stockport should know that he voted 10 times against more powers for local councils.

He voted consistently for a reduction of central government funding of local government - by 24 per cent in 2015/2016 and by a further 44 per cent in 2017/2016.

This is despite councils already lacking funds to provide adequate social dare.

Incidentally, Mary Robinson, Stockport’s other Tory MP, has an equally shocking voting record.

Mr Wragg may be ‘well-liked’ in Hazel Grove but I wonder how many people know about his voting record. If they did, would they vote for him again? Theresa Tallis and Raymond Tallis Stockport recently confirmed.

Why should Lib Dem leaflets pay respect to the Conservatives anyway?
