Brave Cassie’s big fundraiser

-

A WOMAN who is battling breast cancer following a shock diagnosis at the age of just 32 is organising a fundraiser to give back to the charities that have helped her.

Cassie-Leigh Byrom, from Offerton, was diagnosed in December last year and is currently undergoing treatment at The Christie Hospital.

She will also need surgery and a course of radiotherapy, followed by injections for the next 10 years. The event, at the Houldsworth Arms in Reddish on Sunday, June 11, will raise cash for The Christie, Cancer Research UK and Manchester’s Maggie’s Centre.

Cassie said: “I just want to raise as much money as I can for the charities who have done and continue to do amazing work.

“Finding out I had cancer was such a massive shock, not just for me but family and friends too, but I was determined to not let it beat me or bring me down. I’ve tried to remain positive throughout and want to give something back.”

The main focus of the event are brave volunteers who are having their heads shaved and legs waxed.

Cassie says she got the idea after her sister said she wanted to support her by shaving her head.

Also going under the razor will be a number of her friends. Where possible their hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer.

Cassie has set herself a target of £5,000 and all the money raised will be split between the three charities.

Cassie is still looking for volunteers to go under the razor (or wax) – to find out more, get involved or make a donation visit justgiving. com/crowdfunding/ cassie-leigh-byrom or facebook.com/cassieleigh. shuttleworth.
