Scarf was a token of love

-

FRANK Hamnett and Irene Britnor got married on Saturday, August 26, 1950, at St Mary’s, where Frank was christened and where he recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

They first met on a bus when Frank was on leave from the Navy.

Irene bought him a white silk scarf for Christmas to go back to the Navy with.

He went back before New Year and didn’t return until Easter but kept in touch by letter.

On the wedding day, Frank remembers he and Irene walking down a rolled-out red carpet for free as it had not yet been removed from the previous wedding party.
