Unbeaten record is on the line

- BOXING SHELDAN KEAY

MATTY Mainwaring is set to make his return to the ring on June 16 when he competes on a bill at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester.

The former footballer has done well ever since hanging up his boots to become a boxer, putting together an unbeaten record of five wins and no defeats.

He will now look to keep up that good form when he steps up for his first six round bout in a fortnight’s time.

Mainwaring played for the likes of Stockport County, Hull City, Hyde and Stalybridge Town during his football career.

He has proven to be just as handy with his fists as he was with his feet, as shown in his last bout when he comfortably defeated experienced Chris Jenkinson 40-36 on points back in March.

That fight also took place at Bowlers, with the 27-year-old hoping the venue will now be a happy hunting ground for him.

Mainwaring will also have one of his stablemates on the bill as Adam Hague will look to get back to winning ways.

The pair are trained by Matthew Hatton at his Metro Fitness Gym in Stockport, with Hague having his first fight since he came up short against Lee Appleyard earlier this year.

Hague lost the fight on points and suffered the first defeat of his professional career, taking his record to 10 wins and one defeat.

The 23-year-old is still a highly touted prospect despite his loss, and had previously beaten Appleyard in his debut back in 2015.

Also on the bill on June 16 are the likes of Sam Hyde, Stephen Danyo and Stacey Copeland, who will be making her professional debut.

Tickets for the event priced from £35 are still available and can be purchased direct from the boxers themselves or by visiting www. pbeofficial.com
