The world would be a far better and safer place with no religion

-

SO Jihadists hate us because we won’t embrace Islam. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want. There are literally thousands of different religions in the world - why is it everyone thinks theirs is the only correct one?

Religion over the years has been responsible for so many wars, killing, and destruction all in the name of their gods.

My belief is, if we had no religion at all the world would be a far better and safer place.

Take time to read your history and that of your religion all of which can be interpreted to suit what the reader wants it mean.

The slaughter by Catholics of South American Indians simply because they wouldn’t convert.

The Crusades were yet another war of mass slaughter to force nonbelievers to convert to someone else’s beliefs.

I may be hated for what I am saying but it’s the truth and a fact. Religion is the biggest cause of wars and hate. Always has been and always will be. John Williams Stockport

CAN YOU HELP AS VOLUNTEER?

THE average bag of items donated to Mind’s New Mills shop is worth around £30 – £30 that could support three people to take part in a group ‘Wellbeing Session’ or enable a pregnant woman to access support to help them successfully understand and manage their own perinatal mental health.

But bags of stock are worth nothing if we don’t have volunteers willing to clean items, sort them, create brilliant displays and assist our customers.

Our shop relies on volunteers, which is why for this year’s Volunteers’ Week (June 1 to 7) we are telling volunteers ‘you make the difference’ and asking the local community ‘how can you make a difference?’.

I am calling on readers to support Mind’s New Mills shop by giving just a couple of hours twice a week.

Volunteering at the Mind shop in New Mills is a great way to give something back to the local community and it also provides a chance to develop new skills or build work experience, and can even support you in obtaining an NVQ.

I urge readers to pop in and find out more about how they can support us to help secure a better life for the one in four people who experience a mental health problem every year. Maxine James, Mind shop in New Mills 31/33 Market Street

MP’S JOB IS TO HELP OTHERS

BE careful what you wish for. MP William Wragg is a supporter of Stepping Hill Hospital, but voted to keep the 1 per cent cap on nurses’ basic pay.

His basic pay went up from £74,000 a year then by £950, a year later.

As an MP he voted for reducing central government funding by nearly 25 per cent, this meant higher council taxes.

During the 2015 campaign, he said ‘I am not joining Parliament to jump on the gravy train as people think’, well, he’s not exactly in the food bank queue, with a five-figure salary.

Yes he does help local charities and those less fortunate than himself, but isn’t that why he wanted to serve in Parliament.

Before the 2015 election he said he had been accused of trying to buy the seat.

I wrote in his defence saying that William was not buying the seat, the party was spending £1,000s on quality leaflets and visiting ministers in effect trying to buy the seat.

One way and another, a grand total of £46,000 was spent on the election. No extra money now, smug or what?
