Lions pencil in tasty pre-season fixtures
STOCKPORT Town and manager Dave Wild have announced their pre-season fixtures for the 2017/18 season and there are some competitive clashes for the Lions.
Wild, who finished his first term in charge of the club in a respectable 10th place following a turbulent season for Town, has already seen his side taste a 7-0 defeat to Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man) national side at the end of May but all the action gets back underway in July.
The Lions have fixtures next month against a number of strong opposition, none more so than National League side, Curzon Ashton, who will visit Stockport Sports Village on Saturday 8th July. Town will also face off against Evo-Stik Northern Premier outfit, Skelmersdale United, also at SSV, just a week later on July 15th.
Club chairman, Seb Rowe, commented on the announcement, he said: “ After a good end to the season under Dave, I’m so happy that he’s [Wild] got a fun preseason to look forward to with his players before the league campaign begins.
“We are in the North West Counties to compete and we want to test ourselves against strong opposition, and so fixtures against Curzon Ashton and Skelmersdale Utd are great preparation for us at Stockport Town, and we are all looking forward to next season getting underway.”
Town’s preseason campaign gets underway on July 3rd where they host Abbey Hey, of the NWCFL Premier Division, followed by Curzon and then Skelmersdale. Wild’s Lions then travel to Cheshire League Premier side Knutsford on July 18th before closing out preseason with home fixtures against AFC Macclesfield and Whalley Range FC on the 22nd and 29th respectively.
